Junior Lifeguarding Jennings Beach Ages 11-14

The Junior Lifeguarding program introduces youth to the skills, knowledge, and leadership qualities of professional lifeguards through an in-person instructor-led lesson. Instructors guide participants in classroom discussions, team activities, and in‑water practice to teach the fundamentals of water safety, rescue techniques, first aid, and CPR basics. This program bridges the gap between Learn-to-Swim and the full American Red Cross Lifeguard certification course.

Under instructor supervision, Junior Guards build confidence, strengthen swimming endurance, and develop teamwork while learning about the responsibilities of keeping swimmers safe. Instructors provide structured opportunities for participants to apply their skills in real-world scenarios, always under guidance.

Prerequisites:
Participants should be able to swim front crawl for 25 yards, tread water for 1 minute, and be comfortable swimming underwater.

General questions can be directed to msachs@fairfieldct.org

• Classes will only be canceled in the case of severe inclement weather (lightning/thunder, heavy rains, or poor water quality). Light rain or drizzle does not automatically cancel classes. If classes are canceled due to weather or water closures, makeup classes will be offered on Fridays.
• For water quality updates after heavy rains, check the Health Department's website at https://www.fairfieldct.org/service/health_department/swimming_areas-updates.php
• Please note: No refunds will be issued for missed or canceled classes. Water Safety classes must remain small for safety reasons, so early registration is highly recommended.
• Age requirements for each course are strict, so please review prerequisites carefully as the Red Cross has recently revised course requirements.
• Note: Goggles are recommended (but not provided).
• Beach Stickers are required to park at Jennings Beach, and Hand Passes are necessary for entry at Lake Mohegan.
